Can Mondo Duplantis set a ninth World record in Suzhou?

This will be the question agitating the minds of track and field followers after Mondo Duplantis opened the 2024 Wanda Diamond League season with his eighth world record in the Pole Vault.

The Swede soared highest and cleared an astonishing world record of 6.24m in Xiamen, China last week.

Duplantis revealed after the world record feat that he’d been fired up by what was, for him, an unsatisfactory indoor season which was ‘a little sloppier’ than expected.

‘So I brought a bit of fire to this outdoor season. I was really excited to get it started,’ he told the Diamond League website.

When asked if he could go higher, the 24 year old said ‘it’s definitely possible, conditions-willing.’

‘There’s still some higher heights in me, for sure, as long as everything is in the right place.’
