Charlton outscores Amusan, ends as 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold 60m hurdles winner

Devynne Charlton’s incredible 7.68 run in the 60m hurdles at the final leg of the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Madrid, Spain which came
within 0.01 of equalling her own world indoor of 7.67 did not just ensured she won the event with a new meeting record but also catapaulted her above Nigeria’s World 100m hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan to end up as the winner of the event.

The win moved the Bahamian’s total score to 28, one more than Amusan (27) and will go home with not just the USD$10,000 bonus but also a wild card entry for
the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24 which holds next weekend.

Each athlete’s best three results will count towards their overall point score. The athlete with the most points in each scoring discipline at the end of the
tour will be declared the winner.

Charlton came third in Boston behind Amusan who was second, won at both the Milrose Games and in Madrid while Amusan won in Astana, came second in Boston and won in Lievin, France to both end on 25 points but the 28 year old edged the Nigerian via the extra three bonus score for setting a world record in New York.

The world leader now heads to the British city of Glasgow in incredible form, and her performance in Madrid Friday evening was a clear sign to her rivals including Amusan that she’ll be tough to beat next weekend.

Amusan’s bid to add the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold title to her Diamond League 100m hurdles title has failed but the petite Nigerian can go to
Glasgow and become the first Nigerian woman to win a World Indoor title and owns both the indoor and outdoor world record in the high hurdles.

In the long jump the Nigerian trio of Ese Brume and Ruth Usoro did not make the final seven list of top perfromers while Chukwuebuka Enekwechi placed seventh in the overall ranking for Shot Put with six points after finishing fourth both at the meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic and in Madrid on Friday evening.
