Chukwueze: ‘I can’t leave AC Milan to come here without winning the AFCON 2023 Trophy

Samuel Chukwueze says he is under pressure to deliver the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023 title to Nigeria as a reward for leaving his Serie A side, AC
Milan in the middle of the season.

Chuwkueze started the latter two of Nigeria’s three group stage games at AFCON, the back-to-back 1-0 victories against the Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau
which followed the opening 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea.

The Super Eagles are in the knockout stages and will face bitter rivals, Cameroon on Saturday night in one of the round of 16 fixtures.

‘I can’t leave Milan to come here without winning this trophy because I really need it. I want to make my country proud, so I can’t come here to waste my
club’s time for nothing, I have to fight for my position and win,’ Chukwueze told ASN Sports TV.

Chukwueze has scored twice in 12 AFCON games since he made his debut in the competition in 2019 and will be looking to open his account for his third AFCON appearance against the Indomitable Lions on Saturday.

The 24 year old has scored in each of his previous two appearances in the competition, netting the opening goal in the 2-1 defeat of South Africa at the quarterfinal stage in his debut and also the opening goal in the 3-1 win against Sudan two years ago in Cameroun.
