Enekwechi lampoons AFN for lack of planning, inefficiency

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has lampooned the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, for its lack of planning and hopes things will be better planned ahead of the Paris Olympics.

The reigning African champion and Nigeria record holder indoors and outdoor placed sixth in the Shot Put event at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland but the focus of a bewildered nation was not on his performance but his competition attire. The NIKE vest he wore, obviously one he wore either last year at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary or the Commonwealth Games in 2022 in Birmingham, United Kingdom had the NIKE covered with a black tape.

Many Nigerians had wondered on the first day of competition (Friday) when quartermiler Dubem Nwachukwu wore a white vest on a black shot with no touch of the country’s green colour. The vest looked oversized but Enekwechi has now hinted the athletes did not have any kits supplied to them for the Championships.

‘I hope going forward I will not have a kit I will tape or washed for the next round,’ said the 31 in an interview with Making of Champions. He also complained there was neither an accompanying coach nor official when the athletes arrived for the Championships.
