Enoch Adegoke Fails To Set New 60m PB In Berlin
Tokyo Olympics 100m finalist Enoch Adgoke’s bid to go under 6.70 seconds and run a new personal best in the 60m event did not go according to plan Friday at the ISTAF Berlin indoor meeting, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting.
The 21 year old Nigerian who is competing indoors for the first time in his career after his historic run in Tokyo at the Olympics has been improving with every race in his debut indoor season and all eyes were on him to improve his 6.73 seconds personal best at the ISTAF Berlin meeting.
The reigning Nigeria 100m king was also expected to go under 6.70 seconds and become in the process the 30th Nigerian man to do that but it was not to be.
Running in lane six in the second of the two first round heats, Adegoke ran 6.77 seconds to place fourth and miss out on both the automatic qualification and best losers spots for the final.
Jimmy Vicaut of France who failed to go past the semifinal stage at the Tokyo Olympics won the heat (6.63s) with home boy Kranz Kevin coming second in 6.66 seconds.
In the first heat, Tokyo Olympics 100m champion Jacobs Lamont Marcell of Italy ran 6.57 seconds to win with Ivory Coast’s Arthur Cisse, the 2019 African Games 100m silver medal winner coming second in 6.60 seconds.
Jacobs won the final with a 6.51 personal season’s best ahead of Cisse who ran 6.60 seconds again ( personal season’s best) and Vicaut who came third in 6.61 seconds (personal season’s best).
