Femke Bol runs fastest 400m time indoors in 18 years
Onojuvwevwo leads African indoor list in 2023, fastest Nigerian in nine years
Dutch woman Femke is the fastest woman over the 400m indoors since 2004!
The 22 year old ran 49.96 at the at the Metz Moselle Athlelor, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting, on Saturday to set a new 49.96 lifetime best
The time is also the fourth fastest time in history after Jarmila Kratochvilova (49.59) of Czechoslovakia, Russia’s Natalya Nazarova (49.68) and Taťána Kocembova (49.76) also of Czechoslovakia.
Bol’s feat came exactly a week after setting a world 500m World record in Boston, USA.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Ella Onojuvwevwo tops the African 400m indoor list this year with the 52.61 she ran last weekend at the Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
It is the fastest time returned by an African woman since Sierra Leone’s Margaret Vanessa Barrie ran 52.43 in February 2020.
It is also the fastest time returned by a Nigerian over the distance since Reginna George ran 51.60 at the Ergo Arena in Sopot, Poland in March 2014.
