FIFA ranking April 2023 preview: Super Eagles may drop to 40th in the world and sixth in Africa
Brazil expected to lose number one status to Argentina
The Super Eagles are expected to drop five places to 40 when the first FIFA ranking of 2023 is released on Thursday.
The Nigerians dropped from 32nd (October) to 35th (December) after the post World Cup ranking and are set to drop further again after losing one of their two 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double header against Guinea Bissau.
The Super Eagles are predcited to be one of the three worst movers among nations in the top 50 with Cameroun projected to drop by nine places to 42 and Costa Rica dropping seven places.
Morocco are projected to retain their 11th status in the world and first in Africa while Nigeria will also drop a step from fifth in Africa to sixth in Africa after Algeria and Egypt have been predicted to move above Jose Peseiro’s team to replace Cameroun who will drop from fourth last December to seventh in the latest ranking when it comes out on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Brazil are expected to lose its top ranking to fellow South Americans and reigning world champion, Argentina following the Samba Boys unexpected loss to Morocco in a friendly during the last international window.
