Fubara’s Support Praised as Rivers United Targets NPFL Glory

The Rivers State Government has once again demonstrated its commitment to Rivers United F.C., with Governor Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara, GSSRS, providing full backing for the team’s campaign in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Chief Dr. Okey Kpalukwu, General Manager of Rivers United, board member of the NPFL, and Chairman of the NPFL Club Owners Association, praised the governor’s unwavering dedication shortly before the team’s departure for Kano.

‘I want to thank His Excellency, Sir Sim Fubara, for his continuous belief in and total support for the team. This he has once again demonstrated through the Ministry of Sports by approving all that was needed for this trip, including flight tickets,’ Dr. Kpalukwu said.

He stressed that the government’s consistent investment has boosted morale and sharpened the team’s competitive edge.

‘The support from the state has been vital in keeping Rivers United strong and focused as we continue our campaign,’ he added.

The team left Port Harcourt’s Obafemi Awolowo International Airport aboard ValueJet on Friday, heading to Kano for their Matchday 35 clash against Kano Pillars F.C.

The fixture is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the Sani Abacha Stadium, with Rivers United currently sitting at the top of the NPFL standings.
