Guinea-Bissau Step Up Preparations For Nigeria Clash

Guinea-Bissau have stepped up preparations for Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Nigeria after completing their first training session at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau.

The Djurtus arrived at Osvaldo Vieira International Airport late Saturday, September 26, following their impressive 2-0 victory over Tanzania in Zanzibar in their opening Group L fixture.

The team moved quickly into preparations for the Super Eagles, holding their first training session at the 24 de Setembro Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Guinea-Bissau Football Federation, the players called up by head coach Emiliano Té showed good physical condition and displayed determination during the session as they targeted another three points in the qualifying campaign.

The Djurtus will host Nigeria at the same venue on Tuesday, September 29, with both teams entering the encounter on the back of victories.

Guinea-Bissau opened their campaign with a 2-0 win over Tanzania, while Nigeria came from behind to defeat Madagascar 2-1 in Uyo on Friday.

The home side will now look to build on their Zanzibar victory when they face the Super Eagles in the second round of Group L.

Nigeria, meanwhile, will be seeking another victory to strengthen their position in the group and maintain their push for qualification for the 2027 AFCON finals.

The Djurtus currently have three points from their opening game, while Nigeria also have three points after their victory over Madagascar.

Group L comprises Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar and Tanzania, with Tanzania already guaranteed a place at the tournament as one of the co-hosts alongside Kenya and Uganda.

Tuesday’s encounter at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium is scheduled to kick off at 5pm Nigerian time.
