It’s Official: Osimhen out of AC Milan Vs Napoli UEFA Champions League Game

Victor Osimhen will not be in action on Wednesday when Napoli face AC Milan in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie at the San Siro.

The Nigerian has failed to recover fom the muscle injury he sustained while on international duty with Nigeria and has not be listed in the Partenopei’s squad that will travel to Milan for the all-Italian game.

Napoli will now out to make further Champions League history without their prized Nigerian asset who scored thrice over two legs against Eintracht Frankfurt to ensure they secured their first ever qualification to the last eight of the most luctaive club competition in the world.

Osimhen has helped put Napoli on the brink of their first Serie A title since 1990 with 21 goals in 23 games and looks set to end the season as the competition’s top scorer.

AC Milan are however not taking Osimhen’s absence as a sign of victory.

“It doesn’t make a difference, Napoli have great players, they’re all good,” said AC Milan full-back Theo Hernandez.

Napoli are 16 points clear at the top of Serie A with nine matches left but lost 4-0 at home to AC Milan in the league on 2 April.

That will count for nothing when the teams meet on Wednesday, said AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli.

“The match in the league will obviously give us an idea, but there’s no way it will be the same match again,” added Pioli, whose side sit fourth in the domestic table, 22 points behind Napoli.

“I think we can expect something different from Napoli so we need to be aware whether we need to make changes from the match in the league.”
