Las Rozas CF 0-3 Sevilla: Iheanacho ends 2024 goal drought with a brace

Kelechi Iheanacho scored his first goals of 2024 after netting a brace in Sevilla’s 3-0 defeat of third tier side, Las Rozas at the Estadio Navalcarbón in the preliminary round of the 2024/25 Copa del Rey competition.

The Nigerian also played his first game in over a month for his LaLiga side after three games on the substitute bench in the course of the month.

The goals were also his first for LaLiga since July when he joined as a free agent after nine years of Premier League football in England.

Iheanacho netted Sevilla’s second and third goals on 61 and 79 minutes a 40th minute own goal by Luis Mendez.

The goals will be a huge relief for the 28-year-old who has been under intense pressure from the fans after his failure to hit the ground running as anticipated.

Prior to Wednesday evening’s game, Iheanacho had not score a goal for clubs and country since October last year when he scored Leicester City’s third goal in the 3-1 win at Swansea City in a Sky Bet Championship. It was his fifth and final goal in 23 appearances in the competition.
