Lookman signs off with goal number 7, goes level with Osimhen in Serie A’s top scorer race

Ademola Lookman scored his seventh Serie A goal of the season and earned his first win in three games against Leece as he signs off for Atalanta before joining the Super Eagles for their pre- African Nations Cup training camp in United Arab Emirates early next year.

Lookman, who has scored thrice in his last five games made it four goals and two assists in his last six games and has tied his countryman, Victor Osimhen in the race for Serie A top scorer in the 2023/24 season.

Osimhen finished as the first African man to end a Serie A season with his 26 goals last season but the Napoli player has scored just seven this season, eight adrift of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

Lookman is also in the race this term after finishing joint fifth on 13 goals with AC Milan’s Olivier Giroud and ACF Forentina’s M’Bala Nzola.

The 26 year old is ranked fourth with Osimhen with seven goals while Martinez tops with 15 goals, Domenico Berardi of Sassuolo is second with nine goals with the duo of AC Milan’s Olivier Giroud and AS Roma’s Romelu Lukaku third with eight goals each.

The two Nigerians will dfinitely lose ground in the race following their participation in the African Nantions Cup which runs from middle of January to early February.
