Lookman thrilled to score in front of Atalanta fans in Bergamo

Nigerian says he expected the impact he is making at the club

Ademola Lookman is thrilled to score in front of Atalanta home fans in Bergamo after netting the second goal in the club’s 2-0 defeat of Sampdoria in a Serie A fixture on Saturday.

The goal was Lookman’s fifth in his last three games in the competition and 12 in 18 appearances in his first season in Italy.

‘3 points & a goal in front of you Bergamasco’s,’ the Nigerian tweeted on Sunday, a day after the game.

It was the seventh time the 25 year old has scored at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo in the Serie A.

Lookman has made history as the second Nigerian after Victor Osimhen to score 10+ goals in his first season in the Serie A and the first to score more than 10 goals in his debut season with 12 goals and counting.

Meanwhile Lookman has revealed in an interview with Sky Sport Italia correspondent after the game against Sampdoria he was not remotely surprised at making such a big impact with Atalanta in his debut season.

“Yes! Of course, I expected it. Maybe it’s a surprise to you, but I know what I can bring, I know what I can do. The team is the most important thing.”

Over the last four seasons, he scored 12 goals in all competition playing for Leicester City, Fulham, RB Leipzig and Everton.

Yet so far this term, Lookman already found the net 14 times in 20 official matches for Atalanta. Why the huge difference?

“Different circumstances, different scenarios that made me who I am today and that’s me as a whole person. I think I’m in the right moment, doing the right things, keep staying disciplined in what I do.”
