Maduka Okoye Arrives Super Eagles AFCON Camp As 12 Players Train Sunday

Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye arrived the Super Eagles AFCON camp in Abuja Sunday to become the 13th player to arrive as the team intensifies training with 10 days to their opening group D game against the Pharaohs of Egypt at the 30-capacity multi-purpose Stade Roumdé Adjia stadium in Garoua, Cameroon.

Okoye was however not among the 12 players that trained inside the mainbowl of the Moshood Abiola stadium under the guidance of coaches Autin Eguavoen, Paul Aigbogun and Joseph Yobo.

The training session was open to the public and lasted an hour and a half, with the nine outfield players put through the routine drills.

The players were Moses Simon, Sadiq Umar, Chidozie Awaziem, Zaidu Sanusi, Tyronne Ebuehi, Olisa Ndah, Taiwo Awoniyi, Chidera Ejuke and Henry Onyekuru.
Goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu took on the three goalkeepers, namely Francis Uzoho, Daniel Akpeyi and John Noble.

The players looked in good shape, but only a handful of fans were around to watch them go through their drills.

The camp is expected to bubble from today as most of the call-ups will be released by their European clubs.

Some of the players expected are the Leicester City duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi; Watford’s William Troost-Ekong, Frank Onyeka of Brentford and Everton’s Alex Iwobi who was an unused substitute in his club’s 3-2 loss at Goodison Park to visiting Brighton.

Also expected is Joe Aribo of Rangers and Kelechi Nwakali who featured for all 90 minutes in his club, SD Huesca’s 1-0 loss to visiting Girona at the Estadio El Alcoraz.

Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze will be in action for his club Monday night against Levante and the 22 year old will be expected to join his colleagues in Abuja latest Wednesday before the team jets out to Cameroun.
