MFM Edge First Bank in Overtime Thriller to Reclaim Zenith Bank League Title

MFM Women’s Basketball team reclaimed the NBBF/Zenith Bank Basketball League title after edging First Bank 66-64 in a thrilling overtime final at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on Saturday.

MFM appeared on course for victory after building a 43-35 lead through three quarters, winning the opening periods 11-6, 13-12 and 19-17.

But First Bank, the Elephant Girls, fought back strongly in the final quarter, winning it 21-13 to level the game at 56-56 and force overtime.

MFM held their nerve in the extra period, edging First Bank 10-8 to reclaim the championship and secure their third title in four years.

The victory also completed a perfect 2026 league campaign for MFM, who won all their matches, including three victories over First Bank.

MFM had missed out on the title last year after losing to First Bank in the semi-finals, but returned this season to regain the crown.

First Bank were chasing a record-extending 10th league title but ultimately fell short after taking the final into overtime.

Nigeria Customs claimed the bronze medal after defeating ASO SKY Queens 51-38 in the third-place match.
