MFM Pockets N7.5m After Winning Third 2026 NBBF/Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League Title

MFM Women Basketball Club pocketed N7.5 million after winning the 2026 NBBF/Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League title in Lagos.
MFM defeated record champions First Bank 66-64 after overtime in a thrilling final to claim their third title in four years.
First Bank received N5 million as runners-up, while Nigeria Customs earned N3 million after beating ASO SKY Queens 51-38 in the third-place match to secure the bronze medal.
The individual award winners also received cash prizes, with MFM’s Ioumabo Pius emerging as the biggest beneficiary after collecting a total of N2 million.
Pius received N500,000 for making the Tournament Top Five alongside Favour Anari of ASO SKY Queens, MFM’s Nwaado Hemban, Nigeria Customs’ Nkem Akaraiwe and First Bank’s Marilyn Ofidibe.
She received another N500,000 from Zenith Bank after being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, while Dam Foundations and Xejet contributed an additional N500,000 each.
Speaking at the final, Zenith Bank Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dame Adaora Umeoji, represented by Executive Director Adamu Lawani, described all the participating teams as winners and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to women’s basketball.
‘All of you already inspire every young girl watching from the stands tonight,’ Lawani said.
‘Zenith Bank remain committed to the game, we’ll be here next season and the seasons after.’
He congratulated MFM for their victory and First Bank for pushing the champions to the limit.
‘To the champions, you earned this title with discipline and hard work. Congratulations to the runner-up, you tested the champion to the end, hold your head very high. We will celebrate together,’ he added.
Zenith Bank has supported the women’s league for 20 years, with the bank again pledging continued backing for the development of women’s basketball in Nigeria.
