Nigeria vs South Africa: Super Eagles seeking to set record five straight cleansheets at AFCON

The Super Eagles will be seeking to extend their cleansheet record to five consecutive games when they face the Bafana Bafana of South Africa Wednesday in
one of the semifinal games of the ongoing 34th Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023.

The Nigerians have won their last four AFCON games without conceding, beating Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissua, Cameroun and Angola matching the record they set on
their way to winning their first AFCON in 1980.

Then the Green Eagles, as they were called, and led by ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu drew 0-0 with Ivory Coast in their second group game after trouncing
Tanzania 3-1 in the opening game.

They defeated Egypt 1-0 in their final group game before going on to beat Morocco 1-0 in the semifinals and Algeria 3-0 in the final.

Nigeria could keep five consecutive clean sheets in the competition for the first time ever if they defeat South Africa without conceeding a goal.

This will be the fourth encounter between Nigeria and South Africa in the competition with the Super Eagles winning the previous three by an aggregate score
of 8-1.

Nigeria and South Africa last met in the semi-finals at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2000, with the Super Eagles running out 2-0 winners thanks to a brace
from Tijani Babangida.
