NSC Constitutes LOC for 3rd National Para Games, Sets March 2026 Date
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has formally constituted the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 3rd edition of the National Para Games.
The National Para Games, an annual multi-sport event organised by the Federal Government through the NSC, provides a competitive platform for athletes living with disabilities, promoting excellence, healthy competition, and national unity.
The newly formed thirteen-member LOC is chaired by Mrs. Thecla Opara, Director of the National Sports Festival and Para Sports Department, with Mrs. Hauwa Saibu serving as Secretary.
Other members include Raphael Odo, Mohammed Rabiu, Abdullahi Libata, Lambu Umar, Dr. Ozi Salami, Kola Daniel Adeyanju, Lanre Ogunjobi, Ebidowei Oweife, Issa Suleiman, and Asaba Pius.
The Commission has tasked the committee with delivering a world-class Games under an atmosphere of fair play and sportsmanship, in line with international standards.
The 3rd National Para Games will feature 15 sports, including Amputee Football, Para Athletics, Para Badminton, Para Canoe, Para Cycling, Para Karate, Para Powerlifting, Para Shooting, Para Soccer, Para Swimming, Para Taekwondo, Para Table Tennis, Sitting Volleyball, Wheelchair Basketball, and Wheelchair Tennis.
Scheduled to hold from March 26 to April 3, 2026, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, the Games will build on the success of previous editions.
The maiden edition in 2022 saw over 4,000 para-athletes from 21 states compete across 15 sports, with Bayelsa State emerging champions.
The second edition expanded participation to all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with Bayelsa retaining the title.
The NSC’s Para Sports Department will coordinate the Games in collaboration with the Nigeria Paralympic Committee (NPC) and other stakeholders to ensure smooth organisation and alignment with global best practices.
Dr. Mrs. Kehinde Ajayi, Director of Information and Public Relations at the NSC, signed the statement, reaffirming the Commission’s dedication to making the 3rd National Para Games another landmark event in Nigeria’s sporting calendar.
