Ofili, Onojuvwevwo head to Fayetteville, Arkansas for Tyson Invitational

Nigeria’s reigning 200m indoor (22.46) and outdoor (21.96) record holder, Favour Ofili and teenage quatermiler, Ella Onojuvwevwo will be in Fayetteville, Arkansas this weekend to compete at the Tyson Invitational.

According to the competition’s entry list, Ofili will be running in the 60m and the 200m events while Onojuvwevwo will compete in the 400m.

For Ofili, the return trip to the Randal Tyson Track Complex in Fayetteville will be to, at least, reclaim the 22.53 time she ran a forthnight ago but which has now been disqualified (as per World Athletics website).

The 20 year old actually ran her first 200m indoor race at the arena in 2021, finishing first in 23.36. She also competed in her first NCAA Division I Indoor Championships,at the same venue. She ran 22.96 to place fourth in the final. It was her second sub-23 seconds performance of that year.

Ofili, named her conference track athlete of the week for running 22.55 over the 200m and 7.21 in the 60m at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in, Albuquerque, New Mexico last weekend will be aiming to run inside 22.50 for the second time in her career and in the process supplant Irish-Nigerian, Rhasidat Adeleke (22.52) as the world leader so far this season.

Onojuvwevwo on her part will be seeking to set her second personal best in the 400m after running 52.61 last weekend in New Mexico to race to number eight in Nigeria and her school, Louisiana State University’s all-time list.

Like Ofili, Onojuvwevwo’s 53.57 performance in her first 400m indoor race at the Razorback Invitational in Arkansas was annulled by World Athletics.
