Oshoala scores sixth goal of the season to lead Bay FC to final playoff spot

Super Falcons star, Asisat Oshoala scored for the sixth time this season to lead her club, Bay FC to the eighth and final playoff position with just four matches remaining on the NWSL regular season schedule.
The Nigerian was upended in the box after she received a perfectly weighted through ball down the middle from her teammate,Tess Boade in their away game against Seattle Reign FC at Lumen Field on Sunday afternoon.
Oshoala was tripped up on her way to the goal, earning Bay FC a penalty kick and the forward stepped to the spot and converted the kick.
She has thus scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season and her second penalty-kick goal of the campaign.
The Nigerian forward has been prolific on the road, tallying five of her six goals in away matches and has netted three goals in her last four games for Bay FC.
She said the club’s game plan was to keep attacking because of the importance of the game.
‘We know how important this game is and we are trying to be cautious as well as a team ..we also try to go out and make sure we get on the end of every opportunity we are able to get. The game plan is just for us to actually keep attacking today,’ she said in an interview after the first half of the game.
Asked if she was waiting for Seattle Reign FC goalkeeper to make that decision before, she slotted the ball in so calmly, Oshoala says:’To be honest, I just got to look at them sometimes. If you watched, she moved before I shot the ball. So, I’m just like you don’t have to think for me… she was thinking for me you know.’
Bay FC (28 pts) are three points clear of Racing Louisville FC (25pts) in ninth place and six points clear of San Diego Wave FC (22pts) in 10th place and Angel City FC (22pts) in 11th place.
The win for Bay FC was their fifth on the road this season. The team’s five wins away from home are tied for the fourth-most road wins in the league in 2024.
