Osimhen: I will be fit for Champions League games against AC Milan

Victor Osimhen is confident he will be fit and ready on April 12 when Napoli will visit San Siro stadium in Milan for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie against the Rossonneris.

The Nigerian will miss Sunday’s Serie A clash against the same opponent after returning from international duty with the Super Eagles with a muscle injury but the 24 year old says he will be available for the Champions League games.

‘I’ve been told I will be there. It is nothing serious, but I want to take these 10-12 days to rest and recover,’ Osimhen told TG5.

‘I hope to be there, but I have also been told and I am convinced that I will be on the pitch against Milan.’

Osimhen has scored 25 times in 29 games across all competitions for Napoli this term and his 19 in 23 Serie A games is propelling the Partenopei to their first Scudetto in 33 years.

The Nigerian is also chasing goal records in his third season in the cometition after switching Ligue 1 for the Serie A in September 2020.

He is the top scoring Nigerian in Serie A history and the top scoring in a single Serie A season.

His 21 goals are also the most an African has scored in a single season in the competition, tying him with Cameroun legend, Samuel Eto’o.

Osimhen is also a goal away from becoming the joint African top scorer in Serie A history with George Weah of Liberia.
