Osimhen in race to become first African Serie A top scorer in 125 years

Victor Osimhen was on target Saturday for the 13th time in 15 Serie A games so far this season to move four goals clear of the chasing pack in the top scorers’ race.

The 24 year will now be looking to make history not only as the first Nigerian but also the first African to finish a Serie A season as the competition’s top scorer.
For him to fulfil that ambition however, he will need to stay on his feet and first move past the 20 goals Simy Nwankwo scored in the 2020/21 season which made him the first Nigerian to score 20+ goals in a Serie A season.

The Super Eagle joined Napoli from Lille in September 2020 and has netted 37 times across two and half season in 66 games to become the top scoring Nigerian in Serie A history.

He is also the first Nigerian in Serie A history to score 10+ goals in his debut season.

Osimhen has now scored at least 10 goals in each of his three seasons in the competition thereby becoming the first Nigerian and second African after George Weah to achieve that feat.
