Premier League Minutes Per Goal Or Assist: Iheanacho ranks 10th all-time

Kelechi Iheaancho has scored just 40 times in 184 Premier League games and may not belong to the greatest goal scorers in the competition’s history but the Nigerian stands in the more important stat: minutes per goal.

Among players with 150+ appearances in the Premier League, the Nigerian, according to Opta Joe, ranks 10th all-time. The 26 year old has played 7,141 minutes of Premier League football since he made his debut in the competition in August 2015.

This means the former Manchester City forward has scored every 112 minutes, the 10th best minutes per goal ratio by a Nigerian in the history of the competition and the third best by an African after Liverpool’s Mo Salah who has scored every 97 minutes in the 17,208 minutes and Côte d’Ivoire’s Didier Drogba who scored every 110 minutes out of the 13,925 minutes he played in the competition.

The Nigerian was once dreaded by Premier League defenders while he was playing for Manchester City and once had the best goals-per-minute record in Premier League history.
That was in December 2016 when he was credited with scoring a goal every 96 minutes – the best goal ratio for any player with 10 or more in the league’s history at the time.

At that time, Sergio Aguero, who now shares the top spot with Arsenal’s Thierry Henry, scored his 112 Premier League goals as at December 2016 at a rate of one every 107 minutes.

Aguero has retired from football but still tops the chart with Henry as they both scored every 86 minutes, a minute ahead of Salah while former Arsenal and Man United forward, Robin van Persie follows with a goal every 102 minutes.
