Queiroz Ends Short Ghana Spell Following Colombia Defeat

Carlos Queiroz has officially stepped down as head coach of Ghana after the Black Stars’ early exit from the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The 73-year-old Portuguese tactician, appointed just weeks before the tournament on a short-term deal, confirmed his departure following Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the round of 32.

His contract included an extension clause tied to a quarter-final finish, but that trigger was not activated after the team’s elimination.

Queiroz leaves after an 11-week spell in charge, during which he guided Ghana through a challenging group featuring England, Croatia, and Panama, before bowing out in Kansas City.

In a farewell message, he expressed both pride and ‘healthy dissatisfaction,’ urging the Ghana Football Association to build success not only on the pitch but also through stronger structures off it.

His resignation now opens the door for Ghana to begin the search for a new coach ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this year.
