Rhasidat Adeleke: ‘Grateful To God For How Far I’ve Come’
NCAA 400m champion, Rhasidat Adeleke has acknowledged the huge support she received on her way to breaking the 200m and 400m Irish records as well as emerging the first Irish sprinter to win an NCAA title.
Adeleke stunned the crowd at the Mike Myers stadium in Austin, Texas with a dominant run in the 400m with her time of 49.20, setting the second-fastest time in NCAA history and the Texas program record.
The 20 year old is the eighth University of Texas student to win the 400m title and first since Chrisaan Gordon in 2017. She now has three of the five fastest outdoor times in school history.
Her 49.20 lifetime best and Irish record is the third fastest 400m time ran so far this year behind Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino (48.98) and her victim in Austin, USA’s Britton Wilson (49.13).
Adeleke is also the 20th fastest woman ever in the history of the event.
The Irish woman who was born to Nigerian parents took to her twitter page to thank those who helped her to the unprecedented feats she has achieved this season.
‘Thank you to everyone who helped me get here & to everyone who supports me, it doesn’t go unnoticed. Grateful to God for how far I’ve come,’ she tweeted.
