Rivers Angels begin NWFL Premiership season on the road

Rivers Angels Football Club of Port Harcourt are on the road for their first game of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership season on Wednesday, November 30.

The Port Harcourt based side will take on defending Champions, Bayelsa Queens at the Samson Siasia stadium, Yenagoa.

Rivers Angels will be heading into Wednesday’s clash with a number of fresh legs as the team had let go some old players after the previous league season.

The Jewel of Rivers failed to retain their NWFL Premiership title last season but are determined on ensuring they reclaim the crown from their rivals, Bayelsa Queens.

Rivers Angels midfielder, Deborah Abiodun expressed her readiness for the new NWFL season. According to the Super Falcons star, she and her teammates can’t wait for Wednesday’s first game against The Restoration Girls.

“It feels really good to see the resumption of the league after the long break. My teammates and I have been working really hard for a while now. We’ve been so eager to be in competitive mood and I’m super excited about the resumption.

“I love the fact that we are playing Bayelsa Queens in our first game of the season, it will help in shaping us ahead of other games. They’re just coming back from the CAF Champions League and may have an advantage over us in fitness but we won’t relent.

“We are not in Yenagoa to lose, so we are giving them a very good fight tomorrow. Fans should expect quality display as we hope to go home with all three points after 90 minutes”, she concluded.

Both teams last met at the NWFL Super 6 tournament in Benin and Bayelsa Queens edged the Jewel Of Rivers 2-1.

Kickoff for Wednesday’s game is 4pm.
