Rohr: Why Nwabili is a better goalkeeper than Uzoho

Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr believes Stanley Nwabili, the 27 year old Chippa United of South Africa goalkeeper who has become Nigeria’s first
choice gaolkeeper at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations is a better goalkeeper than the erstwhile number one choice, Francis Uzoho.

Rohr gave Uzoho, the 25 year old Omonia Nikosia of Cyprus his debut in 2017 and was Nigeria’s number one goalie at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The German has told Sports journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana that Nwabili is a better goalkeeper than Uzoho who many Nigerians have criticised in the build-up to
the ongoing AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast.

‘I have to say that Nwabali is better than Francis Uzoho. He is calm and has very good control of his area,’ Rohr reportedly told Obayiwuana.

Nwabili has kept two clean sheets in his first three competitive for Nigeria and will be looking to emulate Best Ogedegbe, Peter Rufai and Vincent Enyeama as
top goalkeepers who won the Africa Cup of Nations title for Nigeria.

Ogedegbe was in goal when Nigeria won her first AFCON title in 1980 while Rufai and Enyeama were in goal when the Super Eagles won away from home in 1994 and
2013 respectively.

Nwabili is expected to be in goal when Nigeria face Cameroun in a round of 16 tie at the ongoing AFCON 2023 on Saturday in Abidjan.
