Rosemary Chukwuma races to Nigeria’s fastest 60m time in 25 years

Ofili runs her third fastest time in the 200m indoors

Rosemary Chukwuma sped to a new 7.09 lifetime best in the 60m event to move to joint fifth in the Nigerian all-time list.

The former African Youth and Junior double sprint champion has also become the seventh Nigerian sprinter to go inside 7.10 seconds over the event.

Chukwuma raised expectations of a spectacular race in the offing when she ran 7.17 to win her semifinal heat.

Her 7.09 performance is also the fastest by a Nigerian since Franca Idoko ran 7.09 in Chemnitz, Germany in February 2008.  Meanwhile, Nigeria 200m indoor record holder (22.46), Favour Ofili ran 22.53 in her first individual performance of the season to win at the Razorback meet in Arkansas.

The time is the third fastest by the Nigerian in the event.

Nigeria’s reigning 100m king, Favour Ashe did not start in the final of the 60m event in Lubbock, Texas on Friday but his 6.55 run in the 60m event moved him to number three in Auburn University’s all-time list.
