Ruth Ayodele Set to Continue Nigeria’s Weightlifting Charge at Glasgow 2026
Team Nigeria’s Ruth Imoleayo Ayodele will be in action on Tuesday as the country’s impressive weightlifting campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games continues with the women’s 63kg competition at the SEC Armadillo.
Ayodele will face a strong field of 11 athletes, including Canada’s Olympic and Commonwealth champion Maude Charron, England’s Sarah Davies Smale, Australia’s Kiana Rose Elliott, India’s Nirupama Devi Seram, Scotland’s Beth Ashbee, Wales’ Charlotte Whalley, Northern Ireland’s Hannah Crymble, Malaysia’s Binti Radzi Nurul Syazwani, Nauru’s Femily-Crystie Notte and Malta’s Roberta Tabone.
Nigeria heads into the event brimming with confidence after a dominant start to the weightlifting competition, where the team has produced a series of gold medal-winning and record-breaking performances.
Ayodele will be aiming to maintain that momentum by adding another medal to Team Nigeria’s growing haul and further strengthening the nation’s reputation as one of the leading forces in Commonwealth weightlifting.
