Shericka Jackson targets 200m World Record in Budapest after win in Rabat

Reigning World 200m champion, Shericka Jackson says her focus is on breaking Florence Griffith-Joyner’s 21.34 world record this August at the World Athletics Championships in August.

The Jamaican who stormed to a 21.45 finish to win her first individual world title last year in Oregon, USA sped to a 21.98 meeting record at the Rabat Diamond League meeting on Sunday, the second fastest time in the world this year.

Jackson told reporters after the race the victory in Rabat will not be her last year and she is focussed on breaking the 200m world record at the World Championships in Budapest.

‘I am happy about my victory and it is not going to be my last though it was a little bit breezy at the start. It was competitive at first but it was OK for me because I was well prepared.’

‘The crowd was a little bit noisy, it’s something that happens in every competition, but I got used to it. Rabat is a good place, I liked everything especially the organization. I would definitely work harder to get more wins and hit world record in the next upcoming Championships,’ said the 28 year old.

Shericka will also be looking to successfully defend the 200m Diamond League ttile she won last year in Zurich.
