Simbine: This win will me help build momentum leading into the Olympics

Former African 100m champion, Akani Simbine of South Africa won the 100m event at the Suzhou Diamond League meeting on Saturday in Suzhou, China ahead of the much advertised duo of Christian Coleman and Fred Kerley.

The South African equalled his 10.01 personal season’s best to earn the win which he believes will build a lot of confidence in him as he bids to turn Olympic fourth and fifth place finishes to a place at the podium this summer in Paris, france.

“I knew the field here would be strong but I just had to replicate what I did last week at the South African Championships. This has built a lot of confidence leading into the Olympic year. This helps build momentum, which I hope to build on further as the season progresses,’ said Simbine.

Meanwhile, Coleman, who came in second had the better of her countryman, Kerley for the second straight Diamond League meeting says he expected a better performance from himself.

“I expected a better performance but I am fine with today’s result which I achieved my SB today. I am prepared for the Olympics Games. I’m going to keep training and improving in the upcoming months.

‘I really enjoy my experience of this trip in China. I am looking forward to be here next year and compete again with the excellent athelets.”
