Sporting Lagos Coach Buter Fined N500,000 Over NPFL Comments

The EuroMatchNPFL has fined Sporting Lagos coach Jeffery Buter N500,000 and cautioned him against making unsubstantiated public statements about the league and its referees.
The sanction followed an inquest held on Wednesday over comments made by Buter during a press interview after Sporting Lagos’ Lagos Derby against Ikorodu City on September 30.
Buter admitted during the proceedings that he was in error over the comments.
The EuroMatchNPFL said the relatively lenient sanction was based largely on the coach’s admission of error and his relatively limited experience in the NPFL.
The league also urged other coaches and club officials to refrain from reckless public statements that could undermine the reputation of the EuroMatchNPFL in the eyes of the public.
Coaches and club officials were advised to use the league’s official dispute resolution mechanisms to seek redress and lodge complaints.
Buter has seven working days to pay the N500,000 fine or face more stringent sanctions.
