Super Falcons drop two places in FIFA ranking, still number one in Africa

Nigeria’s Super Falcons, voted the team of the year at the CAF Awards early this week in Marakech, Morocco, have dropped two places in the latest FIFA
rankings.

The team dropped from the 32nd ranked country in the world in August to 34th in the latest rankings released Friday by FIFA.

The Nigerian women had moved eight places up to 32nd in August but have now dropped two places but still retain the top spot in Africa with South Africa,
ranked 52nd in the world, second in Africa.

Morocco (61st), Ghana (62nd) and Cameroun (68th) complete the top five highest ranked nations in Africa.

Nigeria’s best ever ranking is 23 and it has been achieved thrice viz July – August 2003; August 2004 and March 2005 while the country’s lowest ranking of 46
was achieved in August 2022.

Meanwhile, reigning world champions Spain has claimed the top spot for the first time. They are the fourth team in football history to reach the coveted
position, after the USA (2nd, up 1), Germany and Sweden. France (3rd, up 2) make up the podium.

England (4th, -) remain just below those three highflyers, ahead of previous leaders Sweden (5th, down 4). Germany (6th), the Netherlands (7th), Japan (8th),
Korea DPR (9th) and Canada (10th) complete the top ten, which no longer features Brazil (11th, down 2).
