Tottenham 6-2 Leicester City: Ndidi rated worst Foxes player in humiliating defeat

Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi’s poor and lethargic start to the 2022/23 Premier League season continued on Saturday when he was adjudged by Leicester Mercury newspaper as the worst Leicester City player in the club’s 6-2 annihilation by Tottenham.

The 25 year was in the heart of Foxes’ shambolic second half display as they were torn apart by Spurs’ super sub Son Heung-min to suffer a sixth straight defeat and pile pressure on Brendan Rodgers.

Six more goals conceded means City have now let in 22 in their first seven games of the season, the most ever by a club in the Premier League. The defensive shambles continues to cost a side that looked dangerous in attack.

Leicester Mercury rated Ndidi three over a possible 10, the worst by any Leicester player in action.

‘Even before the mistake, he had little impact on the game. Usually so dominant when he plays as a one-man shield, it felt like he did not give the defence any protection at all, only committing fouls.

‘Then, just when City needed a solid start to the second period, he switched off and paid the price,’ wrote the newspaper on Ndidi’s performance Saturday evening.

Ndidi’s Nigerian compatriot at the club, Kelechi Iheanacho fared slightly better albeit he came in as a 74th minute substitute for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

‘He (Iheanacho) slowed the ball down too much and then fluffed a chance to score at the death after Maddison’s shot was saved.

‘But, he was perhaps unfortunate to miss out on the starting line-up in the first place,’ wrote the Leicester Mercury.

The Super Eagles duo will be hoping to use the international break to kickstart their season as they have been included in Nigeria’s squad to play against Algeria in an international friendly in Oran, Algeria.
