Victor Osimhen back in business, ready for Serie A title fight

Scores in first start since Nov 21, 2021 as Napoli win at Venezia

Victor Osimhen is back with a bang, his wonderful header and late Andrea Petagna strike giving Napoli a precious 2-0 win away to Venezia.

Napoli took the lead when Politano whipped a ball to the back post, where Osimhen peeled away from his marker to steer the header back across the face of goal into the far top corner. He celebrated with a Mark of Zorro gesture to go with the protective mask.

The Nigerian joked after the game that the protective mask is ‘a good look for me’ after scoring against Venezia and believes Napoli can ‘achieve our objective’ of the Scudetto as they face Inter next week.

“It feels good to play from the first minute, I trained well this week and of course I am really happy with the performance from the whole squad and my goal,” Osimhen told DAZN.

Considering his first goal since the incident was a header, does that suggest the protective mask is working well?

“I think so, it’s a good look for me!”

Napoli and Milan are now within a point of leaders Inter – even if the Nerazzurri have a game in hand – and there’s a showdown at the Stadio Diego Maradona this weekend.

“We’ll take every game step by step. Of course Inter a very tough opponent, it won’t be easy, but with the steps in the right direction, I think we can achieve our objective this season,” added the Nigeria international.

“Of course, we have many objectives and the Scudetto is one of them. Step by step, I think we can get there.”
