Watford Hails Troost-Ekong, Okoye On Eagles AFCON 2021 Progress

English Premier League side Watford have congratulated the duo of defender William Troost-Ekong and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye after the Super Eagles booked their round of 16 ticket with a perfect record in the group phase of the ongoing AFCON 2021.

‘Congrats lads…a goal for William Troost-Ekong as he and @madukaokoye progress to the #AFCON 2021 knockouts with a 100% record,’ the club wrote on its verified Instagram page after the game on Wednesday evening.

While Troost-Ekong was in action for all 90 minutes and captained the team, Okoye was rested by the team’s interim manager Austin Eguavoen.

Troost-Ekong’s goal was his second in nine appearances in the tournament. The 28 year old scored an 89th minute winner against South Africa at the quarterfinal stage of the 32nd edition of the competition three years ago in Egypt.

He has started all nine games he has featured in since he made his debut in the Super Eagles’ 1-0 defeat of Burundi in their opening group game in 2019 and including all three played so far in the ongoing edition.
