Wolves Condemn ‘Disgusting’ Racist Abuse of Striker Tolu Arokodare
Wolves have issued a strong statement condemning the ‘disgusting’ racist abuse directed at striker Tolu Arokodare following Sunday’s 1–0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
The Nigerian forward was targeted online after missing a first-half penalty at Selhurst Park, with the club sharing examples of vile messages sent to him on Instagram.
The abuse included slurs such as “monkey” and repeated use of the N-word, alongside other offensive remarks blaming him for Wolves’ struggles.
Wolves confirmed they have reported the posts to social media platforms, the Premier League, and relevant authorities.
In their statement, the club said: ‘Wolves are disgusted by numerous instances of racist abuse, from multiple perpetrators, directed at Tolu Arokodare on social media following today’s fixture against Crystal Palace. There is no place for racism, in football, online, or anywhere in society. We condemn this abhorrent and unlawful behaviour in the strongest possible terms.’
They added: ‘Tolu has our full and unwavering support. No player should be subjected to such hatred simply for doing their job. We stand firmly alongside him, and alongside all footballers who are forced to endure this abuse from anonymous accounts acting with apparent impunity.’
This incident marks the third case of high-profile racist abuse against Premier League players in just days, after Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana and Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri were also targeted online. Authorities, including Lancashire Police and the UK Football Policing Unit, are investigating the abuse directed at Hannibal.
