Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League Final 8 Tips Off September 29

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has confirmed September 28 as the arrival date for the eight teams competing in the Final 8 of the Zenith Bank/NBBF Women’s Basketball League in Lagos.

The decisive phase of the competition will be staged at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, with the Final 8 scheduled to begin on September 29 and the championship game set for October 3.

The venue became available following the postponement of the National Intermediate Games, originally scheduled to begin on October 1, allowing the women’s basketball league to conclude as planned.

The eight teams are expected in Lagos on September 28, one day after the NBBF Congress scheduled for September 25.

MFM Women Basketball and Nigeria Customs head into the Final 8 with unbeaten records, having won all their games across the two phases of the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences respectively.

MFM will be aiming to reclaim the title they surrendered to Dolphins last year, while Customs will be chasing a second championship.

Record nine-time champions First Bank will be looking to end a title drought that has stretched back to 2018.

Air Warriors, meanwhile, are targeting their first league title since 2019.

The other teams in the Final 8 are Victoria Queens and Bayelsa Blue Whales from the Atlantic Conference, while AS SKY Queens and Titans join Customs from the Savannah Conference.

With two unbeaten conference winners leading the field and several former champions seeking to reclaim the trophy, the Final 8 promises a competitive conclusion to this year’s women’s basketball league season.
