2023 Diamond League: Thompson-Herah, Danielle Williams added to women’s 100m, 100m hurdles final list

Five time Olympic champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah and two-time World champion, Danielle Williams have been added to the list of athletes who will battle for the 100m and 100m hurdles Diamond Trophy this weekend at the final of the 2023 Wanda Diamond League in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

The Jamaican duo finished just outside the respective eight athletes in the 100m and 100m hurdles standings after the conclusion of the qualification process but organisers of the event have decided to add the duo as the ninth in the line up for both events.

Thompson-Herah, the 2016 and 2021 Olympics 100m and 200m champion ran 10.84 last week to win the 100m event at the Allianz Memorial Diamond League meeting in Brussels, Belgium and has now been handed the chance to challenge World 100m champion, Shar Carri Richardson who ran 10.65 to win the 100m gold in Budapest, Hungary.

The Jamaican did not qualify to run in the 100m and 200m events in Budapest but has found the form that propelled her to four individual gold medals at the last two Olympics.

Also added is 2015 and 2023 world champion Williams.

The high hurdler was the surprise winner in Budapest and went on to win at the Weltklase Diamond League meeting in Zurich, Switzerland just about a week after emerging world champion in Budapest.

The Jamaican will be aiming to prove her win in Budapest was not by happenstance.
