Napoli captain, Giovanni Di Lorenzo says Victor Osimhen is a champion who has returned to the team with a Champion’s mindset after leading Nigeria to a silver medal finish at AFCON 2023.‘
The Nigerian scored his first goal against Barcelona on his third appearance against the LaLiga giants and it was enough to earn Napoli a share of the points ahead the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie in Barcelona.
Robert Lewandowski had given the visitors the lead but Osimhen replied on his first match since leaving for AFCON 2023 duty in late December.
Napoli had just one shot on target, but it was a decisive one from Osimhen.
‘Osimhen is a champion and he returned with the right mindset. He will give us a hand, just as Simeone and Raspadori will, now the coach has a lot of options to choose from,’ Di Lorenzo told Amazon Prime Video Italia after the game.
Osimhen has now scored six goals in his last six games at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in the Champions League.
According to Opta Paolo, the only players to score more goals at a specific venue in the competition are Erling Haaland at the Etihad (12) and Kylian Mbappe at the Parc des Princes (nine) since the start of last season.
