Christantus Uche thrilled to play in LaLiga, set for home debut at the Coliseum
According to LaLiga website, ‘the debutant whose profile grew the most in Matchday 1 was surely Christantus Uche of Getafe CF, who helped his team earn a 1-1 draw against Athletic Club (Bilbao) at San Mamés.
‘Although he isn’t a forward, he was able to move into attack for the capital city side and scored their goal, which was one of the most incredible storylines of a thrilling opening matchday.’
The Nigerian, born in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State in Nigeria, was playing in the 10th tier of Spanish football 10 months ago for Moralo CP, a small club from Navalmoral de la Mata, from the region of Extremadura in southwestern Spain, in 2023.
‘He then moved to AD Ceuta, playing in Spain’s third tier, before catching the eye of Getafe CF coach Jose Bordalas.
Uche, officially unveiled as a Getafe player on Thursday, has also expressed his delight at his transformation from a non-league player just under a year ago to a LaLiga player.
The Nigerian is equally thrilled to have made the kind of debut he made last week in the LaLiga.
The first game was amazing to me, it was a dream come true. I am really glad to have the opportunity to play and I will never forget that day,’ said Uche who revealed his admiration for the club’s coach, Bordala.
‘The coach, Bordalas has been so good to me.. the first time I met him, he showed that he really wanted me,’ said Uche.
Meanwhile, Uche is expected to make his home debut at the Coliseum when Getafe host Rayo Vallecano in their matchday two game in the 2024/25 LaLiga.
