Former Bendel Insurance Goalie, Amas Obasogie Suspended Over Match-Fixing Allegations
Nigeria international goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been suspended for three months by Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars SC following allegations of match-fixing.
The club confirmed the decision in a statement released on Friday, February 27, 2026, describing the move as a precautionary measure while its Disciplinary Committee investigates the matter.
Obasogie came under scrutiny after Thursday’s league clash against Namungo FC, where Singida conceded a stoppage-time equaliser.
The Nigerian spilled a routine free-kick delivery, allowing Fabrice Ngoy to score and deny his side victory.
In the same statement, the club also announced a three-month suspension for Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho, citing indiscipline and absenteeism.
‘The leadership of Singida Black Stars SC, through the Disciplinary Committee, has taken disciplinary action against players Khalid Aucho and Amas Obasogie,’ the statement read, stressing the importance of discipline and accountability within the squad.
Obasogie, 25, joined Singida Black Stars in recent seasons and has been a regular starter in the Tanzanian top flight. On the international stage, he was part of Nigeria’s squad that finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, serving as third-choice goalkeeper behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho.
No formal charges or detailed evidence have yet been made public, and the club has not clarified which specific matches or incidents triggered the probe.
Obasogie now awaits the outcome of the investigation, which could determine the next chapter of his career.
The suspension makes him the second Nigerian goalkeeper in recent years to face integrity-related scrutiny, following Maduka Okoye’s 2025 ban in Italy over a betting-related case.
