Plaza praises Akor Adams as Sevilla boost survival hopes

Sevilla manager Luis García Plaza hailed Nigerian striker Akor Adams after his decisive goal secured a 2-1 victory over Espanyol at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.

Adams came off the bench to score the winner in a tense La Liga clash that boosted Sevilla’s hopes of avoiding relegation.

Plaza praised the striker’s impact and the unity shown by the squad: ‘I really celebrated Akor’s goal. I’ve only been here six games, but I really empathize with the team. The bench came out to celebrate, and that’s very important. You can’t stop believing.’

The manager admitted Sevilla’s first-half performance was poor but credited his side’s clinical edge after the break.

He also lauded the atmosphere created by the home fans, describing it as ‘absolutely insane’ and insisting that playing at the Sánchez-Pizjuán makes it difficult for opponents to win.

Adams has now recorded nine goals and three assists in 29 league appearances this season.

Plaza urged focus ahead of their next clash with Villarreal, stressing that 40 points may not be enough to guarantee safety.
