Messi’s Magic Seals Argentina’s Victory, Sets New World Cup Record in Dallas

Lionel Messi once again delivered a moment of brilliance as Argentina defeated Jordan 3-1 in their final FIFA World Cup 2026™ Group J match at Dallas Stadium.

Messi, introduced from the bench after an hour, struck a stunning free-kick in the 80th minute to score his sixth goal of the tournament and his seventh consecutive World Cup goal, a new record.

The strike capped off a commanding group stage performance by the defending champions, who finished top of Group J with maximum points.

Argentina had already secured qualification before kickoff, prompting coach Lionel Scaloni to make nine changes to his starting lineup.

Despite the rotation, La Albiceleste took control early. Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a beautifully struck free-kick, before Lautaro Martinez doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 31st minute.

Jordan, eliminated prior to the match, showed resilience and pulled one back in the 55th minute when Mousa Altamari converted Ehsan Haddad’s cross. Their spirited response briefly threatened to unsettle Argentina, but Messi’s introduction restored calm and ultimately sealed the result.

With his latest strike, Messi moved two goals clear of Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, Vinícius Júnior, and Erling Haaland in the race for the adidas Golden Boot.

Argentina now advance to the Round of 32, where they will face Cabo Verde in Miami on Friday.
