Cabo Verde’s Vozinha Joins Goalkeeping Legends with World Cup Clean Sheets
Cabo Verde’s veteran goalkeeper Vozinha has etched his name into FIFA World Cup history after keeping a clean sheet against Saudi Arabia to secure his nation’s place in the Round of 32.
At 40 years old, Vozinha joins an elite group of legendary shot-stoppers, including Dino Zoff and Peter Shilton, as the only goalkeepers over 40 to record multiple clean sheets at the tournament.
Zoff famously kept two clean sheets at the 1982 World Cup, becoming the oldest player to win the competition, while Shilton registered ten clean sheets across his career, three of them at the 1990 World Cup when he was also over 40.
Vozinha now stands alongside these icons, having made seven saves in his debut against Spain and three more in the draw with Saudi Arabia.
Cabo Verde’s defensive resilience has been central to their campaign, with Vozinha’s leadership inspiring the team’s historic progress.
Elsewhere, Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois reached a milestone of his own, becoming his country’s most-capped World Cup player with 18 appearances.
Courtois surpassed Iker Casillas and now ranks third all-time behind Manuel Neuer (21) and Hugo Lloris (20), further cementing his reputation as one of the era’s most consistent performers.
