‘Alaba’s the type of athlete that makes coaching much more enjoyable’
Says Middle Tennessee track and field head coach Vroman
Middle Tennessee track and field head coach Keith Vroman has paid tribute to Nigerian sprinter, Alaba Akintola who failed to make it to the final of the 100m
and 200m events at the 2023 NCAA outdoor track and field championships which ended last weekend in Austin, Texas.
Akintola 10.07s to finish 13th in 100m and 20.46s to finish 16th in 200m, earning his Second Team All-American in both events.
‘Alaba has had an exceptional career at MTSU making every NCAA Championships since arriving,’ Vroman told the school’s official track and field website.
Vroman says the 21 year old Alaba has been exceptional not only on the track but also in his attitude to training.
‘Our coaches Raymond Bonner and Alex Kline have done great work to guide him in the last two years. We appreciate Alaba’s dedication and desire to work hard
every day, the type of athlete that makes coaching that much more enjoyable,’ said Vroman.
Alaba will now turn his attention to making the World Athletics Championships’ entry standard in the 100m and 200m after he failed to make his debut in World Athletics’ flagship event last year in Oregon, USA after failing to complete the mandatory three out of competition doping test despite making the qualification standard.
