Ashe moves ahead of Oghenebrume with NCAA Outdoor Championship 100m silver medal win

Favour Oghene Tejiri Ashe has moved ahead of Godson Oghenebrume in their head to head clashes in the 100m event after the Auburn University student-athlete broke 10 seconds for the third time this season to win the silver medal in the blue ribband event at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championship on Friday.

The 22 year old ran 9.99 seconds to win his second silver medal in the event at the Championship after winning on his debut in 2022.

Kanyinsola Ajayi, also of Auburn University came in third in 10.01 with Oghenebrume stepping down from second last year to fourth in 10.02.

Ashe has thus won in six of his 11 head to head meetings with Oghenebrume and his first since June 2022 when he ran 10.07 to win the third semifinal heat at Nigerian Championships in Benin.

Oghenebrume ran 10.26 to place second in the race. Ashe also made it 4-1 against Ajayi in head to head clashes and a sweet revenge after the Auburn freshman won in the first semifinal of the NCAA outdoor championships.

Ajayi has also won his first race against Oghenebrume in three head to head meetings.
