Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU, bans USA athlete for three years for Whereabouts Failures

Six Nigerian athletes in World Athletics' RTP

The Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU, has banned Randolph Ross (USA) for 3 years, from 1 July 2022, for Whereabouts Failures and Tampering with any part of Doping Control by an Athlete.

The body has thus, for the umpteenth time sounded a warning to athletes about their obligations to track and field, especially athletes in the Registered Testing Pool, RTP, who need to regualrly update their whereabouts.

‘As athletes you have an important responsibility in protecting the integrity of your sport. Part of that obligation means that you will need to provide your whereabouts details if you are a member of the World Athletics Registered Testing Pool.

‘Providing accurate and up-to-date whereabouts is about protecting your right to clean sport. Whereabouts information gives the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) the ability to locate athletes with no notice, which is vital for testing athletes who choose to cheat themselves by doping,’ AIU wrote on its website.

Whereabouts Failures will be recorded against an athlete on the World Athletics RTP under the following conditions: You have failed to submit your whereabouts by the required deadline. You have failed to update your whereabouts or you have not updated them as soon as possible after a change of circumstances.

As many as six Nigerian athletes are in the World Athletics RTP and must fulfil their obligations to the sports.

RTP athletes are those at the highest level of their sport and the six who fall under this category in Nigeria are Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Enoch Adegoke, Divine Oduduru and latest addition, Favour Ofili.
