Cameroon Coach, Song: We Respect But Do Not Fear Osimhen

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon coach, Rigobert Song says his team will accord Nigeria striker and reigning Africa Player of the Year the respect he deserves but that they don’t fear the misfiring Eagle who has scored just once in three games at the competition.

Osimhen has had 13 shots and created four chances in the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations group stage, the most shots and chances created combined of any
Nigeria player. Indeed, it’s the most by a Nigeria player in an AFCON group stage that Opta has on record since 2010.

‘Osimhen is a big player. We know him and respect him. But respecting him doesn’t mean that we should fear him,’ said Song who acknowledges the history
between Nigeria and Cameroun.

Song has vowed to do everything within his power his uninspring Lions into the last eight ahead of Nigeria when Nigeria face Cameroon on Saturday vening in the round of 16 of the ongoing 34th Africa Cup of Nations.

‘We know what we need to do and where we need to go. We have prepared and remain focused. We started slowly, moving up gradually. At this stage of the competition, I think there are no more things to look for.

‘In three matches, I no longer have the right to calculate, I have to correct what didn’t work. I will do everything necessary to obtain a positive result,’ said Song.
