Double Blow for Messi as Haaland, Mbappé Break Champions League Records

Lionel Messi has lost two Champions League records, with Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé rewriting the history books following Wednesday’s action in the competition.
Haaland became Manchester City’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Champions League, while Mbappé surpassed Messi as the youngest player to make 100 appearances in the competition.
The Norwegian striker has now scored 38 Champions League goals for City, moving past former club record-holder Sergio Agüero, who netted 36 times in the competition for the Premier League side.
Haaland has also set a new benchmark for reaching 60 Champions League goals, achieving the milestone in just 60 matches compared with the 80 games Messi needed.
The achievement means Haaland reached the landmark 20 matches faster than the Argentine great, underlining his extraordinary scoring rate in Europe’s premier club competition.
Mbappé, meanwhile, became the youngest player to reach 100 Champions League appearances at the age of 27 years and 298 days.
The Real Madrid forward broke Messi’s previous record, which the former Barcelona star set at 28 years and 84 days.
The milestones add another chapter to the ongoing statistical comparisons between football’s leading modern-day goalscorers, with Haaland continuing to establish himself as one of the Champions League’s most prolific finishers and Mbappé reaching a major appearance landmark before turning 28.
